‘HAVE A GO’ COMMUNITY TASTER SESSIONS

Lyra aka Hoop

Sunday 10th August 2025

Always wanted to try an aerial class but never had the chance? Well here it is. Come fly with us and unleash your inner 6-year-old.

And if you came last year and are back for more, welcome back!

We’ll start with a group warm up and then choose from 2 of the skills below. Please note that not everybody might get their first preference, as the groups will be split in half.

Warm Up
Auditorium – Space B _ Chandelier

1.30pm – 2.15pm – Tutor Lee Clayden

Easing you gently into movement, Lee will begin with a floor warm up moving into simple led sequences moving into and around the space encouraging more heat into the body and preparing you for moving into the air.

OPTION 1

Aerial hoop
Upstage – Space C
2.30 – 3.30 – Tutor Iliana Atamaniuk

Aerial hoop or lyra looks like a hula hoop hanging from the ceiling, but it’s made of metal.
In this class Iliana will share some simple shapes and ways of moving from the floor up onto the hoop.

It can be useful to have the backs of your knees covered.

OPTION 2

Vertical Dance
Auditorium – Space B – Chandelier
2.30 – 3.30 – Tutor Chrissie Ardill

Vertical Dance refers to the plane on which the dance exploration happens. Using climbing harnesses and equipment we’ll explore how to use the wall as our dance floor. In this session we’ll look at some basic vocabulary of how to sit, stand, jump and turn when your dance floor is upended by 90 degrees

Note: It’s useful to wear a couple of snug layers around your hips and waist for your comfort.

OPTION 1

Cocoon and cool down
Upstage – Space C
3.45 – 5pm – Tutor TBC

A single piece of fabric rigged as a long loop.
We’ll do some specific shoulder and upper body warm ups before moving up into the cocoon, finding balances and moving through simple shapes supported by the fabric before leading you through a short cool down sequence.

OPTION 2

Low fly harness and cool down
Centre – Space E_ close to exit
3.45 – 5pm – Tutor Lindsey Butcher

Using climbing harnesses and abseil ropes, Lindsey will introduce some ideas for moving in and out of the floor supported by the harness. Working in solos and duets we’ll exploring swinging, spinning, skimming the floor and a sense of flight.
Everything is optional, nothing is compulsory.

Here you can purchase your tickets.

Places are limited and last year we sold out, so don’t delay!
