STRAPS
Straps – Improvers and up
2.30pm – 4pm – Week 1
Space F, Stage– Tutor – Amelia Thornton & Maisie Mo
These straps / loops classes are aimed for those who have tried a few straps classes or a strong ability in another aerial discipline.
We’ll be working through the fundamentals of straps technique – pathways into root positions, using spinning to create sequences and an introduction into static support and dynamics. We will also explore some movement within the loops using other body parts in the straps to create movement pathways.
There will be creative tasks and a guided improvisation on using the floor and entrances in to the straps – finding enjoyment and flow in the straps and using pre existing skill and style to develop individuality.
Please bring long sleeve t shirts to cover elbows and potentially something to cover you waist for rolls.
Prerequisites:
– Be able to hold own body weight.
– Can invert and hold a straddle.
Note: Day one of class will be covered by Pepe Espinoza.
Straps – Intermediate and Up
4.15pm -5.45pm – Week 1
Space F, Stage– Tutor – Amelia Thornton & Maisie Mo
These straps / loops classes are aimed for those who have trained straps previously or have a strong ability in another aerial discipline. The course will involve a mix of exploring “traditional” straps technique and “non-traditional” straps creation.
We will cover the basics of the key body positions in straps and how we change these to be able to move more freely between them (for example from “closed” positions (meat hook, full twist etc) to “open” positions (flag, back balance, butterfly etc). These basics can be applied to breakdown and improve many of the more challenging techniques such as high and low switches, flare to flag, full twists and butterfly rock ups.
In “non-traditional” technique We will look at how we can use the straps with other body parts, such as the ankles, or on one leg, or at the waist. We will go over how it’s possible to mimic pathways of traditional technique (I.e a low switch) but for example, with a leg in the strap instead of the hand, to take the pressure off the body whilst still helping to understand the pathway.
We will look at how we can use creation techniques graphs and the building of sequences. We will also spend some time understanding partner work in straps and how duo sequences can be developed.
Prerequisites: being able to hold a one arm meat hook.
Bring: clothing that can cover your waist, wrists, elbows and thighs if needed!
Note: Day one of class will be covered by Pepe Espinoza.
Straps – Improvers and up
4.15pm – 5.45pm – Week 2
Space F, Stage – Tutor – Pepe Espinoza
In this class we’ll get to experience the simplicity of the straps but the complexity of the technique. We all think that strength is the most important thing to be able to do straps but in this class we’re going to find the balance between strength and flexibility, in the air and on the floor.
We’ll find new creative pathways, work on beats and on spinning technique. Basically, we’ll learn how to have fun while we do straps!
Pre requisites:
– Be able to hold own body weight.
– Can invert and hold a straddle.
– Energy!
