COCOON

Cocoon, Pilates & C-Shaping - Improvers Up

4.15pm -5.45pm - Week 1
Space E, close to stage - Tutor Kate Dunne

This improver-level and up class is designed to strengthen and support your aerial practice through a unique blend of aerial conditioning, C-shaping skills, and Pilates principles. Whether you're looking to refine technique, build strength, or bring fresh conditioning exercises into your personal training or teaching, this session will provide valuable tools to take home.

Kate’s passion for Pilates grew from her own aerial journey, recognizing its power in both injury prevention and enhancing aerial performance. She has shared her Aerial Pilates workshop at events such as Belfast Rope Meet (2024), Vertical Play (2025), and Lisbon Silks Meet (2025).

This class serves as a "supportive" session - perfect for those wanting a break from high-intensity flying while still engaging in deep, focused movement. Expect a challenge, but also a chance to reconnect with your body in a way that complements and enhances your aerial practice.

What to Expect:
✔ Aerial conditioning drills for strength and longevity
✔ Introducing C-shaping technique for fluidity and control
✔ Pilates-based exercises for core stability and injury prevention
✔ A session that balances challenge with mindful movement

Join Kate for a grounded yet powerful exploration of movement that will elevate your aerial practice from the inside out!

Cocoon, Pilates & C-Shaping - Improvers Up

12pm -1.30pm - Week 2
Space C, central space - Tutor Tamati Samson

We’ll be having an in depth look at spin and flair technique and explore a broad range of ways to mount the cocoon in spin. I’ll be sharing lots of tips for maintaining a smooth centred spin, coping mechanisms for dizziness and unlocking those perfectly centred tornado spins.

We will be exploring some of my own sequences that have been designed to work with spin with an emphasis on fluidity - rolling, twisting, sliding seamlessly as though you are dancing with the cocoon. Expect surprising transitions and taking the scenic route to some unusual tangles!

While much of the choreography has been created with spin in mind, students are very welcome to spin as much or as little as they like and the sequences can be performed in static.

Pre-reqs: strong invert technique from unsupported position and a decent level of stamina as some sequences may involve students being in the air for 1min+
