Amelia Thornton

Amelia Thornton is an aerial straps artist and neuroscientist from Brighton, UK. She has a first-class psychology degree from the University of Bristol and a master’s in neuroscience from the University of Oxford and three years of professional circus arts training. Amelia’s work blends science and art, drawing on themes from physics, statistics and neuroplasticity. She made her professional debut in straps at Shambala festival in 2022 and since then she has performed in the U.K, Spain and Italy at a number of festivals and shows including Contorsions, Rodafam and Circarte. In 2024 she founded Company Tykhe with Maisie Mo, an Aerial straps duo that explores platonic love and gory girlhood. The company completed their first residency in spring 2025, going on to perform at Brighton Fringe and Berlin circus festival in summer 2025. Amelia has also organised two interdisciplinary circus conferences, connecting acrobats with experts in neuroscience, psychology, and sports medicine. She will begin a PhD in neuro-engineering in Sports medicine this September at the University of Oxford.
